Kingsley Avenue, an original street, was named for Charles Kingsley, an English clergyman, historian, and novelist. (1819–1875. “Westward Ho!,” published in 1855, told about a young man who sets out to a life of adventure at sea. nIt was set in Bideford, on England’s southwest coast. The book’s bestseller status drove tourism to the region, and some enterprising locals built a hotel named after the book near the ocean.
