Greer Road is named for one of Palo Alto's pioneer families. John Greer. an Irish seaman who leased land on the Rancho Rinconada del Arroyo de San Francisquito married the widow Maria Luisa Soto de Copinger and gained control of the Soto Ranch and of Copinger's Ranch Canada de Raymundo in Woodside.
