According to James Willis in a 2017 interview regarding this cottage, it was the first on the block, was built by his grandfather Arthur Bearsby. Research by James Store indicated that Bearsby was also the owner and the Palo Alto Times noted its permit on January 2, 1918. A sleeping porch was added in 1922 as reported in the Palo Alto Times of August 1, 1922.
